2021.09.21Advance creativity and collaboration in research
“Support Program for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation Researchers in Doshisha University Doctoral Course” has been selected for “Support for Pioneering Research Initiated by the Next Generation” (SPRING), the funding program by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).
The total number of selected programs is 40, including 9 programs of private universities.
In this program, under the leadership of the program officer, we will support doctoral students who wish to conduct pioneering and interdisciplinary research free from existing frameworks, or who wish to engage in overseas activities such as internship abroad, studying abroad, and international exchange programs. Several supporting programs for selected doctoral students will be carried out integrally:
•Financial support for the students to focus on their research activities, which comprises research scholarships (of an equivalent amount to living expenses) and research expenses.
•Measures of human resources development for securing their career paths after finishing their doctoral programs.
The period of the program is from AY2021 until AY2025, during which we will support total 30 doctoral students every academic year.
Message from the program officer:
Currently, our society’s problems are diversified, with various factors and backgrounds entangled together, and are growing more and more complex. Therefore, such social issues cannot be solved by knowledge of single specialization, but by an interdisciplinary approach with integrated knowledge of various fields.
The feature of this program is that it aims to cultivate researchers’ mutual understanding among humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, to foresee our future problems and solve them with global perspectives. In addition, this program aims to nurture “social innovators” who possess high specialization and multiple interdisciplinary perspectives.
